Total farm size: 41 ha, including 10 ha of the irrigated land.

Source of irrigation: Canal

Area under crops and type of crops: 41 ha, including 31 ha of grain crops on rainfed areas, 5 ha of cotton, 5 ha of winter wheat on the irrigated areas

Number and type of livestock: cattle – 30 heads, small cattle – 150 heads.

Number and type of trees: Different trees in the farm and the personal plot.

Have you expanded the area of land under the technology being tested since you first started experimenting with this package: No.

The area of technology implementation under this project was 3 ha, its implementation started in autumn, 2014 and will last during 2015. The area was not expanded. Except for a demonstration site, the farmer have not yet applied this technology in other areas.

Why are you interested in this technology package? What are the most beneficial outcomes that you have attained since testing this technology? This is a soil conservation technology, it is carried out by sowing winter wheat with a special directly sowing seeder. This technology allows reducing timing for sowing crops, number of soil processing, costs of fuels and lubricants and other costs. Tests of this technology are begun from autumn of 2014 by sowing of winter wheat on the area of 2 ha, peas on 1 ha. These tests will be continued in 2015-2016.

What is the next best alternative to use your land, if you did not implement this technology package? There is no alternative technology, except for the traditional agrotechnology of cultivation of grain crops in farms.

What are the main advantages/benefits of this technology package being tested relative to the next best alternative that you identified? It is impossible to define since better alternative technology is not present.

Have any of your neighbours adopted the technology package that you are testing? Yes, it was applied on an area of more than 250 ha to cultivate winter wheat on rainfed land.

If yes to the above, which neighbour(s) (specify their names & location)? «Makhmadiyor bobo sulolasi» farm, on the area of 250 ha. The farmer is Anwar Zhabborov.

What are the main challenges that you have faced since initiating this demonstration site? Difficulties concerning timely arrival of a universal, directly sowing seeder. There is only a single unit of this seeder in this area.

In your opinion, is this technology package suitable for all types of farmers? Yes, is suitable for farmers, and in the first place to those who cultivate grain crops.

Is this technology package relevant for females in your household? (interview to probe on whether the technology package has affected the number of hours that females provide to agriculture, or whether it has made certain production practices easier (less labour intensive) for women (but also men))

Does not concern women, as for men, it considerably reduces agro-technological works during preparatory period and sowing.

If you had to pay the full cost for implementing this technology package, would you have initiated this demonstration site? Yes, this technology allows sowing all types of grain crops. It allows considerably reducing preparatory works for sowing and costs for fuels and lubricants.

Please propose at least one advice that you would like to provide to the agricultural research community or a desire for the development of technologies that can assist you in improving your household’s wellbeing. It would be desirable that scientists inform land users about the achievements of a science concerning new technologies by carrying out trainings, demonstrations and seminars regarding sustainable land management.
