Technology package tested: Cropping on raised beds and introduction of organic fertilizers (manure); cotton-wheat-maize/legumes-rape/barley. Technology of fertility increase of non-saline typical gray soils and gray-meadow soils by enriching them with organic matter.

Number and type of trees:different trees; poplar, ca. 2,000 trees on an area of 2 ha, nut trees - 80 trees.

Have you expanded the area of land under the technology being tested since you first started experimenting with this package: Yes. The area of the experiment on this technology, which was carried out earlier (in 2010-2011), was 3 ha.

Please provide more explanation, if Y to the above: The area of technology implementation under this project was 5 ha in 2014, and will be expanded in 2015. A cycle of this technology is 2-2.5. This technology is applied on 8 ha of the farm area.

Why are you interested in this technology package? What are the most beneficial outcomes that you have attained since testing this technology? As a result of the use of this technology, the soil fertility increases, and hence the need for application of the expensive mineral fertilizers is reduced, productivity of cotton and wheat increases, additional yields from repeated (maize, mung bean, leguminous crops, etc.) and intermediate (rye, oats, etc.) crops can be obtained. That allows receiving additional income, and also promotes development of the animal husbandry (to increase the number of cows, sheep, chicken, etc.) which provide for organic fertilizers. Using this technology, productivity of cotton increased by 0.83 t/ha on the area of 5 ha (1 ha control) compared with an average yield.

What is the next best alternative to use your land, if you did not implement this technology package? In case this technology is not applied, the alternative is an introduction of high rates of organic and mineral fertilizers that promotes increase of application efficiency of the mineral fertilizers, and to grow cotton and winter wheat according to the State Order.

What are the main advantages/benefits of this technology package being tested relative to the next best alternative that you identified? There is a clear benefit from application of this technology package, as there is a saving of mineral fertilizers, additional incomes from repeated crop yields and possibility of development of animal husbandry from repeated (maize) and intermediate crops (rye, oats, etc.).

Have any of your neighbours adopted the technology package that you are testing? Yes, but the technology is not completely applied. They apply high rates of manure, cultivate repeated crops such as mung bean, other leguminous crops, in the end of "cotton-wheat" rotation.

If yes to the above, which neighbour(s) (specify their names & location)? Thefarms «Holik Ugli Zafar», "Kulmurodov Sardor", etc.

What are the main challenges that you have faced since initiating this demonstration site? Lack of manure-spreading machinery, problems with transportation of organic fertilizers.

In your opinion, is this technology package suitable for all types of farmers? Please explain your answer. This technologyis suitable for the farmers cultivating “cotton – grain” chain, except for cattle-breeders.

Is this technology package relevant for females in your household? (interview to probe on whether the technology package has affected the number of hours that females provide to agriculture, or whether it has made certain production practices easier (less labour intensive) for women (but also men)). It concerns women and youth regarding an improvement of their materialwell-being.

If you had to pay the full cost for implementing this technology package, would you have initiated this demonstration site?Yes, in addition to production of the State Order crops, this technology allows to grow repeated (maize, mung bean, other crops) for trade in a market, and intermediate crops for the development of animal husbandry.

Please propose at least one advice that you would like to provide to the agricultural research community or a desire for the development of technologies that can assist you in improving your household’s wellbeing. It would be desirable that scientists inform land users about the achievements of a science concerning new technologies, recommendations to decrease production costs, ways to increase of soil fertility and crop productivity. For this purpose, carrying out demonstrations and / or seminars is necessary.
