Total farm size: 4.5 ha, all irrigated.

Source of irrigation: Canal.

Area under crops and type of crops: 4.5 ha, including 3.5 ha of corn, 1 ha of wheat + maize and bean for crop rotation.

Number and type of livestock: Cattle, 2 heads.

Number and type of trees: apple, cherry, sweet cherry, apricot and nuts - 10 trees.

Have you expanded the area of land under the technology being tested since you first started experimenting with this package: No, at present the technology is testedon the area of 1 ha.

Why are you interested in this technology package? What are the most beneficial outcomes that you have attained since testing this technology? I analyze the results after receiving yield of seeds in June. This technology reduces manual works, fuel and energy expenses, also reduces application rates of seeds per ha (from 200 kg/ha to 150 kg/ha); provides simultaneous implementation of mineral fertilizers, especially phosphoric and potassium ones, all works are mechanized.

What is the next best alternative to use your land, if you did not implement this technology package?Usual (traditional) technology of wheat cultivation - under-winter plowing, harrowing, sowing at the rate of 200 kg/ha, making of irrigation furrows, introduction of the mineral fertilizers, resulting in high expenses.

What are the main advantages/benefits of this technology package being tested relative to the next best alternative that you identified?This technology allows to conduct sowing at the least costs (directly sowing seeder John Shearer).

Have any of your neighbours adopted the technology package that you are testing?No. This technology is carried out for the first time on the area of 1 ha in an irrigation land.

What are the main challenges that you have faced since initiating this demonstration site?Due to heavy rains, snowfall and hence, soil excessive wetting during autumn of 2014, sowing was carried out in December 12, 2014.

In your opinion, is this technology package suitable for all types of farmers? Raised bed technology of wheat cultivation with use of the combined machine KM-2,4 “Ziroatkor”, developed by the department of mechanization of the Institute of Agriculture since 2012. Every year new wheat varieties are bred on a 10 ha area in experimental farms "Ziroatkor" and in the Institute of Agriculture named after Dzerzhinsky. With help of a new seeder “John Shearer” wheat was sown on a rainfed land in the autumn of 2014. It is possible to judge of the efficiency of these technologies in conditions of rainfed and irrigated land only after wheat harvesting.

Is this technology package relevant for females in your household? Yes, manual works generally decrease during crop harvest (wheat, saflor, chick-pea, flax, etc.).

(interview to probe on whether the technology package has affected the number of hours that females provide to agriculture, or whether it has made certain production practices easier (less labour intensive) for women (but also men)) Manual works of workers decrease.

If you had to pay the full cost for implementing this technology package, would you have initiated this demonstration site?Yes. After receiving a good harvest since autumn 2015, this technology will be expanded to the area of 3 ha and the neighboring farmers of the Gissar province will be involved in this technology.

Please propose at least one advice that you would like to provide to the agricultural research community or a desire for the development of technologies that can assist you in improving your household’s wellbeing? Many thanks to the international organization ICARDA and to its regional office in Tashkent for support and cooperation with Agricultural Institute for the development of agrarian sector of the Republic of Tajikistan. Thanks to the scientists, the new technologies, new sowing machinery and other means of mechanization are created, introduction of which labor works and expenses for fuels and lubricants decrease.
